Kiljan Guesthouse

Average: $150 per night
I rate it: 4/5

After a long drive from Westfjords, we were thankful to arrive at this cosy guesthouse in c (a pretty big town compared to the other towns in Iceland, in my opinion).

The host was very friendly and hospitable, and she let us choose if we want a room upstairs or downstairs. We picked the one downstairs next to the bathroom for convenience's sake. While it was quite small, there was a sink in the room, which was great.

The guesthouse is within walking distance to several dining options, gas stations and supermarkets.

Bathroom was quite luxurious and we enjoyed the shower that was a notch above those in other guesthouses. We thoroughly enjoyed dinner prepared by the host, who pays such attention to details, and ensured that our food was good.

Breakfast the next morning was amazing! We informed her we would have it at 9am, but we woke up late and only ate around 10am. Everything was already laid out neatly on the tables and we were spoilt for choice by the huge variety she gave us! It was also the only guesthouse where hot food was offered - she made us some yummy sausages. That was really nice.

If I have to nitpick, heating in the room can be increased. We had put the heater on at the highest and it was still freezing. I am usually quite tolerant of the cold but this was the only guesthouse where I had to wear two pairs of socks to sleep and snuggle tightly under the comforter. Heating for the shower took about 10 minutes which was really long, but not sure if anything can be done abut this.

Overall, I would highly recommend this guesthouse to travelers who are in Blönduós for a night or two. Did I mention that we saw some dazzling Northern Lights from the guesthouse? It was unforgettable. We will surely return in future!
