Scenic route to Höfn

The Ring Road, also known as Route 1, is the 'main' road that runs around the island and connects most parts of the country.

Do you know the Ring Road is about 1300 km? 

Seeing as Singapore is only 50 km across, that is approximately 26 times the length of Singapore!

Most of the attractions are accessible via the Ring Road.

I always have so much respect for Icelanders whenever I drive, because everything is so systematic and roads are clearly labeled.

4x4 vehicles are highly recommended for off-roads, also known as F-roads.

Normal cars are fine in summer, but if you do not have good studded tyres or a 4x4 in winter, you might run into serious trouble.

Remember, there is usually no mobile network up on the mountains and there won't be any help until someone passes by!

Imagine spending hours trying desperately to get out of snow that has not compacted...

And that is not a pretty sight, I assure you.

Also, do not underestimate insurance when you rent a car.

Being Singaporeans, we tend to go for the basic option to save money. That was what we did as always, however this time...

What an expensive lesson!

On our last day (how lucky.,.), a strong gust of wind nearly blew the door off, and in a quick attempt to save the door, this happened. As we opted for the basic coverage, the damage cost us $2700!

If we had opted for the extensive coverage, the damage would have been capped at $500.

So, do not stinge on the insurance.
