Glacier beach on the South |
To me, Iceland is a delicate love story.
2 years ago, I saw photos of Blue Lagoon and thought to myself, "Where is this place? It looks like heaven. Or hell."
From there, I started reading up on this little-heard-of country and knew I had to book myself a trip there.
In 2012, I booked a private tour guide for 4 days and it was unforgettable.
I saw such amazing landscapes I hated myself for 'discovering' Iceland so late.

Returning for a longer trip was my priority, so in 2013, I quit my job to explore Iceland.
Jökulsárlón |
Perhaps the riskiest decision I ever made, I set myself up to stay 3 months with little planning in advance.
Mystical and elusive Northern Lights around Hofn |
I spent a few days catching the spectacular Northern Lights, traveled the South with a private guide, spent 3 weeks volunteering at a dairy farm, 6 weeks working at a countryside hotel and 2 weeks on a road trip around the country.
Volunteering on a dairy farm in Akureyri |
I returned with so many beautiful memories. I tried so many things that I would never have imagined doing, like milking cows, feeding sheep, shoveling poop day and night, fixing fences in snowstorms, making beds by day, a waitress at night... Simply a huge contrast to my life in Singapore.
Volunteering at Hótel Laugarhóll in Westfjords |
Iceland is so dynamic - cliffs, geysirs, waterfalls, volcanoes, black sand beaches, glaciers, icebergs and Northern Lights.
Surprisingly mild winters and summers with eternal daylight.
Látrabjarg cliffs |
A country with people so nice and friendly, cultures so modern yet traditional, a language so uniquely hard-to-master (I still struggle with the basic words)...
Wonderful times |
With Einar and Disa, amazing owners of Hótel Laugarhóll |
I am so happy to have experienced the raw beauty and splendid hospitality of Iceland,
because pictures will never suffice.
Barefoot on an iceberg |
Thinking of Iceland always makes me smile.
Midnight sun in summer |
Of course, there was no question where I went for my honeymoon in November.

Welcome to my paradise.
