Crystal Beach Inn

Average: $150 per night
I rate it: 3/5

This no-frills inn is located on Hulhumalé which is a 10 mins' drive from the airport.

We had booked a deluxe seafront room which did not turn out so seafront after all, because while there is a sea view, it is still quite a distance from the sea. Also, blocking the sea view is the construction of an upcoming hotel. In fact, there is construction work at every corner on the entire island. Had we known this, we would definitely not stay on Hulhumalé.

Having said that, the hotel has basic amenities and friendly concierge staff who, surprisingly, spoke good English. There are few dining options nearby so we ordered room service for all our meals. Food in Maldives, if you have not heard, can be pretty terrible. Do choose your meals wisely.

The Hulhumalé beach is pretty nice, albeit with quite a lot of litter (due to the construction works). It was still rather serene, and we witnessed a beautiful, pink sunset while watching locals swim in the sea.

Presently, there is nothing much to do on Hulhumalé, but it will definitely be booming a few years from now.

I would recommend this inn only if you need to catch an early or red-eye flight. There is free shuttle to the airport. Otherwise, pick an accommodation on Malé instead.
